Global Investors Compete for Sprng Energy in Landmark Indian Renewables Deal

A group of global investors, including KKR, India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Singapore-based Sembcorp, are preparing bids to acquire Sprng Energy, Shell’s Indian renewable power platform. The transaction could become one of the largest M&A deals ever in India’s renewable energy sector, underlining strong private-markets appetite for long-duration infrastructure assets.

Sprng Energy operates a diversified portfolio of solar and wind projects across India and benefits from long-term power purchase agreements. The business was previously acquired by Actis and has since scaled significantly, making it an attractive target for infrastructure and energy-transition investors seeking stable, inflation-linked cash flows.

The competitive bidding process highlights India’s position as a core destination for global private capital in renewables, supported by strong electricity demand growth, government backing for clean energy and improving financing conditions.

Bruin Capital Raises $1bn as Private Equity Expands Into Sports Infrastructure

Sports-focused private equity firm Bruin Capital has raised $1 billion for its latest fund, led by Josh Harris, co-founder of Apollo Global Management. The vehicle is Bruin’s largest to date and reflects growing institutional interest in the broader sports and entertainment ecosystem.

Rather than investing directly in teams, Bruin targets “picks-and-shovels” assets that support the global sports industry, including data analytics platforms, media production, fan engagement technologies and digital distribution. These businesses typically benefit from recurring revenues and scalable business models, making them increasingly attractive to private markets investors.

The fundraise underscores how private equity is diversifying beyond traditional buyouts into sectors where brand value, media rights and technology-driven monetisation offer long-term growth potential.

3. KKR to Acquire Arctos Partners in $1bn Push Into Sports Investments

KKR has agreed to acquire Arctos Partners, a private equity firm specialising in minority stakes in professional sports franchises, in a transaction valuing the business at approximately $1 billion, according to Reuters. The deal marks a strategic expansion of KKR’s exposure to sports and entertainment assets.

Arctos holds interests across major US sports leagues, including the NBA, MLB, NHL and MLS, and focuses on providing long-term capital solutions to team owners. Under the agreement, Arctos will operate within KKR’s asset management platform, benefiting from greater distribution reach and institutional backing.

The acquisition highlights a broader trend of private equity firms targeting sports-related investments as an emerging alternative asset class, driven by resilient demand, strong media rights economics and limited supply of franchise ownership opportunities.
